A cancer diagnosis can be difficult on the wallet. We want our clients to focus on their treatment and recovery, not worry about how to pay the upcoming rent, car repairs, taxes, or other urgent, non-medical expenses. For those who qualify, financial aid reduces stress by taking one more challenge off the table.
Clients embarking on a cancer journey are often unaware of the supplies they’ll need until they need them. Our experienced Unique Boutique team is full of thoughtful volunteers who can help you plan ahead to avoid anxiety while also providing an intimate, personal shopping experience at no charge. Items include free wigs, hats, turbans, breast prosthetics, nutritional supplements, and other non-medical supplies.
Getting to life-saving treatment is incredibly important, but what if you are too sick to drive, don’t have a car, or can’t afford the trip? We help ease those concerns by scheduling volunteer drivers to transport cancer clients where they need to go. We also provide gas and meal cards to reduce travel expenses and may cover hotel stays as well. Such uninsured costs are burdens that we help lift.
PALS (Partners as Life Survivors)
Are you or someone you know a cancer survivor? Do you know an individual who would benefit from talking to someone who has been through a similar experience? PALS is a program designed to match patients with survivors who have had the same forms of cancer or have gone through a comparable situation. PALS gives clients support and insight on their journey to treatment and remission from those who understand what they are experiencing.
Individualized Nutrition Counseling
Each cancer diagnosis and treatment is different and requires individualized nutritional care. We are proud to partner with MyMichigan Health and Michigan Health Endowment Fund to provide personal nutritional counseling.
Caring for a loved one with cancer presents unique challenges – whether your loved one is in the hospital or at home. You don’t have to navigate the cancer experience alone. The Maria Mencia Cancer Caregiver Support Network connects caregivers with others on a similar journey, helping them cope and not feel “alone.”
Advanced Care Planning
A health crisis can hit any of us, anytime, at any age. If you had a medical emergency today, who would speak for you if you could not speak for yourself? Would they know what to do on your behalf? Cancer Services can help clients and caregivers create an Advanced Care Plan that brings peace of mind.
Cancer Services offers a public notary concierge service when our clients need documents notarized and are too sick to leave home.
Our chaplain services provide you and your loved ones with a listening ear in an emotionally taxing time. They offer prayers, blessings, resources, and ways to connect with your chosen faith.
The emotional and physical stress of living with cancer and its treatments takes a toll on everyone involved. Regular exercise can help relieve stress, rebuild strength and flexibility, and improve positivity – plus, it just feels great! We have your health in mind, from yoga sessions to Reiki treatments. We collaborate with many “partners” across Midland to give you the best experience possible.
We offer a plethora of reading materials for those interested in checking out any books from our selection.
